CAHFS relaunched the Engaging Intergovernmental Organizations program in March, starting off its eleventh year by taking a new multidisciplinary approach to tackling the most pressing global public health issues.

Karin Hamilton, DVM, MPH, DACVPM, directs the University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency. “The VPHPM residency is the only one of its nature in the world to my knowledge."

The Summer Public Health Institute is held annually by the University of Minnesota School of Public Health. This unique program brings together over 40 experts in public health to teach a wide variety of intensive one-week courses on applied public health topics, from Fundamentals of Data Visualization in R (a statistical program) to Principles of Risk Communication.

This week I participated in the 68th annual Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) conference in Atlanta, Georgia. While sitting in a large conference hall listening to the many EIS officers discuss fascinating epidemiology case investigations, I decided to share what I learned about the EIS program so far.

The week-long Engaging Intergovernmental Organizations program provided participants the opportunity to network among key global leaders and gain new skills for effectively collaborating with intergovernmental organizations.

Communities of scientists, practitioners, food producers, and health professionals around the globe are working to better understand the implications of antimicrobial use and resistance.

The week-long Farm to Table program was organized with a suite of activities and students that complemented each other well and allowed each participant to find their own area of education- whether looking for general exposure to a food system, specific applications within a discipline, or an extension of their cultural comfort zone.
