Despite a seemingly endless winter of dangerous wind chills and unrelenting snow, spring arrived in Minnesota and brought with it eager warm-weather outdoor enthusiasts, fragrant spring flowers, and one big stinky problem: dog poop.
The Iowa state veterinarian confirmed the discovery of multiple cases of canine brucellosis at a dog breeding facility in Marion County, Iowa, last week. The animals and the facilities are currently under quarantine.

Last week, the Minnesota Board of Animal Health (BAH) announced that a Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) positive deer farm in Crow Wing County was depopulated in the continued effort to manage potential spread to the area’s wild deer. On Friday, Indianapolis-based Caito Foods, LLC, issued a voluntary recall of fresh cut melon products in response to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) ongoing investigation of Salmonella Carrau infections. Ninety-three cases have been identified in nine states, including three cases in Minnesota after people ate pre-cut cantaloupe from the same Trader Joe’s store. Twenty-three people have been hospitalized and no deaths have been reported.
