Volunteers help wildlife biologists complete spring and summer wildlife surveys

Each spring and summer, wildlife biologists and volunteers with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources set out across the state to survey wildlife.

Wildlife biologists and volunteers conduct the surveys to learn more about pheasants, ruffled grouse, frogs, and other wildlife species in Wisconsin.

The surveys occur at all hours of the day on designated routes and require wildlife biologists and volunteers to make frequent short stops for predetermined amounts of time.

Raw dog food recalled due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination

K9 Natural Ltd. recalled four batches of its Frozen Chicken Feast Raw Pet Food due to possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.

The recalled products were shipped from New Zealand to several distributors and retailers in the United States in July 2017.

The Colorado Department of Agriculture reported a sample from one of the recalled products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes.

Colorado is one of several states that regularly samples pet foods and treats for pathogens as part of its animal feed monitoring program conducted outside sampling and surveillance done by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

No more drug options remain as doctors fight multidrug-resistant Typhoid Fever

An epidemic of extremely severe multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella Typhi has infected 850 people in 14 districts in Pakistan and it continues to spread through the country since its detection in 2016.

Researchers have found that the MDR strain of Salmonella Typhi is resistant to all classes of antibiotics except a macrolide antibiotic, azithromycin.

One more genetic mutation could make the Salmonella Typhi MDR strain untreatable, which is a cause for concern as it is expected to spread globally.
