Valeriia Yustyniuk, DMV, MPH, PhD, DACVPM

Valeriia Yustyniuk, DVM, MPH, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Associate at the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS), University of Minnesota, where she completed a Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine Residency (2025) and a Master of Public Health (2026). Originally from Ukraine, she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, 2013) and PhD in Parasitology (2017) from the National University of Life and Environmental Sciences of Ukraine, where she served as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

With more than a decade of experience in veterinary education, research, and international capacity building, Dr. Yustyniuk works at the intersection of veterinary public health, One Health, and regulatory science. She has collaborated with academic institutions, government agencies, international organizations, and industry partners on projects supported by the FAO, DTRA, and WOAH.

Her research focuses on developing practical solutions to strengthen animal health systems and public health preparedness. Her work includes enhancing surveillance for transboundary animal diseases, applying artificial intelligence to event-based disease surveillance and evidence synthesis, advancing antimicrobial resistance surveillance and infection prevention programs, supporting food safety and biosecurity, and evaluating animal welfare in emergency and conflict settings. She also develops educational programs and continuing professional development initiatives to strengthen the veterinary workforce and improve preparedness and response capacity.

Dr. Yustyniuk is particularly interested in translating research into practice by developing evidence-based surveillance tools, training programs, and decision-support approaches that support disease prevention, risk assessment, and evidence-informed policy at the animal-human-environment interface.
