Jesper Chia-Hui Hsu, DVM, PhD

Dr. Jesper Chia-Hui Hsu, DVM, PhD, is a veterinary epidemiologist and Postdoctoral Associate at the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety (CAHFS), University of Minnesota. His work focuses on transboundary animal diseases, infectious disease dynamics, and quantitative epidemiology, with a particular emphasis on African swine fever (ASF) and disease control in the Asia-Pacific region. 

Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, Dr. Hsu worked at the Zoonoses Research Center, National Taiwan University, where he collaborated with the Taipei City Government on waterborne zoonotic parasite surveillance. He also gained industry experience in Taiwan's pharmaceutical sector and received regional training in stakeholder engagement and strategic communication in Singapore.

Dr. Hsu earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from National Taiwan University (2017) and completed his PhD in Veterinary Epidemiology at the University of Minnesota (2024). His research integrates quantitative and qualitative epidemiologic approaches to support evidence-based disease prevention, risk assessment, and policy development.

Beyond research, Dr. Hsu has actively contributed to veterinary capacity building across Southeast Asia. From 2023 to 2024, he supported and delivered online and in-person ProgRESSVet training programs for more than 40 veterinary public health professionals in the Philippines, strengthening expertise in biosecurity, epidemiologic analysis, and farm-level disease surveillance.

His research interests include epidemiology, infectious disease modeling, transboundary animal diseases, One Health, risk assessment, and preventive medicine, with the goal of translating scientific evidence into practical solutions for decision-making in animal health and public policy.

In his spare time, he enjoys tennis, reading, marathon running, snowboarding, and mountain climbing.
