Dr. Beckford has a strong background in teaching and mentorship. She has three years of experience teaching at the college level, where she has worked with veterinary students in academic and professional development settings, as well as two years of teaching experience at the elementary level. Through these roles, she has developed a passion for education and for supporting the next generation of learners and professionals.

She has made significant voluntary contributions to animal welfare initiatives throughout the Caribbean, supporting efforts that improve animal-related policy, the health, treatment, and protection of animals in underserved communities. Dr. Beckford is also passionate about the role of technology in advancing veterinary medicine. She is particularly interested in how digital tools, data systems, and interdisciplinary collaboration can strengthen disease surveillance, improve clinical decision-making, and enhance connections between veterinary medicine, public health, and the technology sector.
Her interest in public health stems from the field’s potential to create broad, population-level impact. She is drawn to public health because it offers opportunities to address complex health challenges at the intersection of animals, humans, and the environment, allowing veterinarians to serve communities in meaningful and far-reaching ways.
