CAHFS News

CAHFS was formed in 2001 after high-profile public health issues sent shock waves through the agricultural community. Now 17 years later, the center plays a key role in protecting people from animal diseases & food borne illnesses.

Common carp are one of the world's most invasive and ecologically damaging fish, and current management strategies can have limited effectiveness and come with non-target impacts. Dr. Ken McColl will present Australia's interesting new management approach in a seminar Thursday May 3, 1:30-2:30pm.

This semester on the St. Paul Campus, CAHFS will present Webcast viewings of the events in the lecture series Antibiotic Resistance: Policy Challenges & Solutions, provided by the Consortium on Law and Values in Health, Environment & the Life Sciences. The third event, “Antibiotic Resistance Policy Challenges and Solutions," is April 3rd.

CAHFS-affiliated faculty Dr. Karin Hamilton and VPHPM resident Dr. Jacob DeVries have been in Kosovo this month leading a workshop "From the Farm to Table - Poulty Production" with the University of Prishtina. Various University of Minnesota (UMN) departments have entered this partnership project with World Learning in order to work with the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary at University of Prishtina, Kosovo (FAV UP) with the primary goals to help develop, strengthen, and sustain a modern academic program for agriculture, food systems and veterinary education.
