Letters were sent last week to over 16,000 Minnesota doctors, dentists, and other health care professionals who had prescribed opioids to at least one Medicaid or MinnesotaCare program patient in 2018. The letters let the prescribers know how many opioids they gave patients compared to their peers in terms of opioids prescribed.

The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources confirmed on Friday that they had captured a bighead carp, two silver carp, and detected a third tagged silver carp over the past few weeks in the Misissippi River in the southern part of the state.

The Iowa state veterinarian confirmed the discovery of multiple cases of canine brucellosis at a dog breeding facility in Marion County, Iowa, last week. The animals and the facilities are currently under quarantine.

The goal of the videos are to supplement material provided by the Secure Pork Supply (SPS) website.

Since China initially reported its first case of African swine fever (ASF) in August 2018, 28 of the 32 administrative areas in the country have now reported incidences of ASF. Despite the authorities efforts to control the spread of the disease, there has been an average of three new provinces per month reporting outbreaks of ASF.

The most recent romaine lettuce outbreak, which sickened 62 people in 16 states and the District of Columbia and caused nationwide warnings against any consumption of romaine lettuce, has been declared over by the Centers for Disease Control.

The traceback investigation pointed to farms in the central coast of California as the likely sources of the outbreak.  The CDC found the outbreak strain of E. coli 0157:H7 in sediment collected within an agricultural water reservoir on one farm in Santa Barbara County, but the FDA is still investigating how the bacteria could have entered the reservoir, ways in which the romaine lettuce from the farm could have been contaminated, and potential other sources of the outbreak.
