Summary

Oluwaseun Akinyede is a Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine Resident at the Center for Animal Health and Food Safety.

After finishing her veterinary training she worked briefly in a veterinary virology laboratory (the FAO Regional Lab for Avian Influenza and Transboundary Animal Diseases) housed in Nigeria’s National Veterinary Research Institute. She later worked as a passive surveillance officer for the avian influenza pandemic preparedness and response project in Nigeria.

She possesses expertise in evidence-based research (specifically, systematic reviews of epidemiological literature). She has performed several in-depth systematic literature reviews for various end users including governmental agencies (such as the Department of Defense and Veterans Affairs) and healthcare professional organizations. She has also conducted smaller-scale rapid reviews of literature for hospitals, and payers. These reviews were used to inform clinical practice guidelines, policies, or purchasing decisions.

Prior to joining the University of Minnesota, she served as a COVID-19 Response Coordinator with the Philadelphia Health Department, where she led a team of COVID-19 Response Specialists.

She is interested in using epidemiological principles and methods to prevent, control, and eliminate zoonotic diseases and transboundary animal diseases with a high impact on public health. She is also interested in learning how to promote and facilitate collaborations between experts in public health, animal health, and environmental health to achieve One Health. She also wants to contribute towards evidence-based decisions and policies related to public health.
